Hey there beauties…

I believe girls are incomplete without jewelleries. Even a single gem can personify our beauty incredibly. It not only makes us look beautiful, it makes us ‘WE’. More than us looking beautiful wearing jewelry, it’s the jewelry that’s given life after it’s worn by us. All of us have different tastes when it comes to buying jewelleries. Some might get intrigued by traditional pieces and some would prefer modern over conventional. Each and every gem has it’s own charm. So let me spill the beans now as to why I am talking all about jewelleries today.

I have recently shot with one of the most prestigious Indian jewelry brands, CARATLANE, a Tanishq Partnership. BOMBAY DECO is the name of the recently launched collection of Caratlane that is a Tribute to the Mumbai. The name, Bombay Deco, has been inspired by the remarkable Art Deco features of the iconic buildings in Mumbai. Navin Ramani, who wrote Bombay Art Deco Architecture, says Mumbai is second only to Miami in terms of the number of art deco buildings constructed more than 50 years ago. “From entire clusters of office blocks and low-rise, spaciously built apartment buildings to hotels and cinema halls built in the 1930s and 40s, the art deco architecture of Mumbai is a visual delight and a design enthusiast’s dream come true,” he says.

Caratlane has beautifully revived the old architecture of Mumbai in the form of jewelry. Tropical imagery, ziggurats, nautical designs and geometrical patterns are some of the distinctive features unique to Bombay Deco. The collection includes 34 unique pieces and I was fortunate enough to shoot the most beautiful of them. Allow me to take you to a tour of their marvelous collection and their roots.

1. Eros Cinema

This cream colored movie theater constructed in 1938 is one of the most stunning buildings and major inspirations for Bombay Deco collection. The structure features a rising facade and a cylindrical minaret which is transformed into jewelries like rings, bangles, earrings, and pendants. Below are some designs inspired by this architecture.

2. Liberty Cinema

Liberty is probably one of the most well-maintained commercial deco structures in the city, thanks to the relentless efforts of its proud owner, Nazir Hoosein, 73. The cinema is known for its rich, opulent interiors. As the name suggests, it was built in 1947 to celebrate India’s Independence from Great Britain. What makes it unique is it’s intricate grill detailing and the glorious turret transformed into some amazing pieces like stud earrings and danglers. Few of the fine pieces inspired by Liberty are as below:

3. Metro Cinema

Metro Cinema showcased only Hollywood movies until the 1970s as it was built and originally run by the Hollywood studio of MGM. The cinema oozes elegance with it’s stunning murals and an ornate chandelier. The jewelry inspired by this showcases stepped tower of the cinema.

5. Empress Court

This larger than life structure symbolizes symmetry, a symmetry of nautical elements and geometrical patterns. Top view of this structure has been taken as inspiration to design jewelry pieces esp. earrings and cocktail rings.

Ever thought of a jewelry line inspired by an old architecture? Aren’t you mesmerized with the beauty it’s been converted to? I, totally, was when I saw them in real. Bombay Deco’s stunning collection is mostly catering to the youth’s fancies for jewelleries. All the pieces are extremely light weight designed for our daily wear. The collection comes in yellow as well as rose gold. Both are irresistible and beyond an individual’s imagination. Enough of me exhibiting their collection, it’s time for you to go check it out for yourself. I know what I am picking, have you decided yet??

BOMBAY DECO, an ode to the MUMBAI, we know and love!!
